Oval Pool Project
Oval Pools have straps that go across the center of the pool. These straps keep the sides straight. It’s important to raise the straps in the middle about a half of an inch to prevent the straps from popping up when the water goes in the swimming pool.

About this Project
This pool is a 16×32 Dynasty Swimming Pool. The pool has Triangular outriggers that extend about 30 inches from the side of the pool. Other oval pools have these buttresses below grade so you don’t see them. We call this pool a buttress oval pool. Most of our clients are building a deck around the pool so these buttresses don’t bother them.
A buttress pool is more affordable to purchase and install.
This style pool is called an NBS Pool (No Buttress System). As you can see from the picture there are no triangular-shaped buttresses sticking out the side of this pool.
When we install NBS Pools we need to account for the sides being buried below grade. When we excavate the pool we dig out two wide trenches, one on each straight side of the pool.
Once we have the pool excavated we need to set patio blocks at two elevations. The trenches and the round ends of the pool are at two different elevations. We use a laser and set the blocks on the straight sides first. Once those blocks are set we can build the sides of the pool.
Once the sides are built and sitting on the blocks we need to square the pool sides. If we did our groundwork correctly we should still be sitting on the blocks. If not then you have to slide the blocks and check the elevations of the blocks.
Once we have the sides in place and they are squared we can set the round end blocks. Before we set the blocks we need to square the round ends by taking two measurements from the corner of the sides to the furthest bottom plate. The measurements should be the same.
Once the blocks are all in and the sand is in the pool we can put the wall up and install the uprights. Before you know it the pool is done. It’s all prep work. The pool goes up fast once the sides are in.
